Lakeside Hospital, which opened in 2004, is the only full-service hospital in West Omaha. Over 4,000 babies have been born at Lakeside since its opening and it continues to be the preferred hospital for families who live in West Omaha. Due to the tremendous growth in western Douglas county, Alegent Health has recognized the need to expand maternity services at Lakeside Hospital, only 5 years after opening its doors.
The new Best Beginnings Maternity Center opened in January 2010
16 Labor & Delivery rooms and 4 C-section rooms on the 2nd floor
36 new Post Partum rooms on the 3rd floor
Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) will continue to handle babies who need a little extra help, or are extremely premature

As the first maternity service established in Omaha and the second largest in the state, Bergan Mercy is thoroughly experienced in all deliveries, including complicated and high-risk pregnancies. Our Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) can handle babies who need a little extra help, or are extremely premature. A perinatologist is available for high-risk pregnancies, and our anesthesiology services and physicians provide 24-hour in-house coverage.
