Emergency Services
The Emergency Department at Midlands is staffed 24 hours a day with physicians trained in emergency medicine, ACLS trained RN’s, and other qualified personnel. Our staff works in concert with all area rescue squads, including 17 volunteer squads to serve Sarpy, Cass, Douglas, Otoe and Nemaha counties.
Diagnostic Services
A full range of diagnostic services are available at Alegent Health Midlands Hospital. This includes state of the art technology for mammography, general radiography, nuclear medicine,CT, ultrasound, tomography, and MRI tests. All exams are performed by registered technologists and read by board-certified Radiologists. The department also provides interventional radiology procedures done in state of art cardiac catheterization lab.
Inpatient Services
An 8-bed critical care unit and a 46-bed medical surgical unit are available for patients in need. There is a mix of private and semi-private beds on the medial surgical unit that serve patients of all ages.
Oncology
The Midlands Cancer Center, which is one of four cancer centers in the Alegent Health system, offers state-of-the-art technology and treatment regimens in a private, personal clinic-type atmosphere. A multi-disciplinary team of highly skilled and dedicated professionals assist patients and their families through the treatment process from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up. Also, Midlands serves as a regional site for national research cancer studies, as do all the Alegent Cancer Centers. The Midlands Cancer Center offers numerous cancer support groups and educational programs for patients and their families. Additionally, Midlands focuses on cancer prevention and early detection by offering a number of community education programs and free health screenings for skin, breast, prostate and colo-rectal cancer throughout the year. The Sarpy County Division of the American Cancer Society has been instrumental to the success of the Cancer Center. In addition to the prevention programs and fundraising efforts to aid valuable cancer research, members of the society make themselves available to pick up patients and take them to their appointments.
Cardiology and Cardio/PulmonaryRehabilitation
Midlands offers a comprehensive range of cardiovascular and cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation services. Non-invasive procedures available at Midlands include EKG, treadmill stress test, holter monitor, a range of echocardiogram procedures, nuclear medicine stress test and heart health screening programs. There are a number of invasive procedures that Midlands offers, with state of the art technology, including diagnostic heart catheterization, coronary angiogram, intra aortic balloon pump, interventional cardiac catheterization, angioplasty/stent placement, electrical cardioversions for rhythm disturbances and insertion of pacemakers.
Cardio/Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Midlands is a three-phase program aimed at helping patients recover as completely as possible. The program stresses individualized treatment under the supervision and care of a highly trained team of health care professionals. Cardiac rehabilitation begins in the hospital after a heart attack, heart treatment or surgery, and continues on an outpatient basis. The program includes a special exercise program, nutritional education and education on management of other coronary risk factors tailored to each individual’s specific condition, with monitored exercise sessions conducted at the hospital.
Alegent Health is the area’s leader in cardiovascular services. Our comprehensive cardiac services include: Chest Pain Centers, Congestive Heart Failure Clinics, clinical research trials, and advanced interventional procedures including off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery, transmyocardial revascularization and minimally invasive cardiac surgery.
Center for Mental Health
Through the Alegent Health Center for Mental Health, Midlands features an inpatient Child and Adolescent Residential Treatment Center and outpatient services in Papillion and Bellevue. As with all Alegent Health hospitals, patients have the additional resources of The Center for Mental Health and other services available from all of the hospitals within the Alegent Health system. The patients who receive care in the Child and Adolescent Residential Treatment Center are typically school-aged children who may be dealing with a variety of problems including depression, anxiety or problems related to the home. Within the Alegent Health system there is a Memory Diagnostic Center which provides a comprehensive outpatient evaluation necessary to determine the cause of memory loss.
Home care services are available 24 hours a day throughout eastern Nebraska and western Iowa by licensed nurses, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, home health aides and dietitians. One call to our Resource & Referral Center coordinates all care services and referrals, and connects you with professionals intent on meeting your home health needs. Services include nursing visits; rehabilitation therapy; physical, occupational and speech therapy; respiratory therapy; nutritional services; home medical equipment services; home care pharmacy and infusion therapy; private care services and hospice services.
Maternity
At Midlands Hospital, we recognize your need for a safe, secure, and private birthing environment. While each room is equipped with state-of-the art equipment, it's also warm and cozy to ensure you feel as comfortable as if you were home. To increase your comfort, your baby and labor can be monitored not only in your room, but also from sites throughout the hospital. Each maternity suite can accommodate labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care. A soothing whirlpool tub is also available. Our experienced nurses understand that your baby's birth is one of the most significant moments of your life, and appreciate what a miracle your baby is. This personalized care is simply the best way to meet the needs of a new mother. The Midlands Best Beginnings maternity center includes:

Surgery
Almost every type of surgery can be performed at Midlands, which features an operating suite with six operating rooms for general, specialty and outpatient procedures. Additionally there is a surgical room in an outpatient clinic for minor procedures only requiring local anesthesia such as biopsies, excisions, and some eye procedures and endoscopy procedures. An anesthesiologist is available 24 hours a day. General surgical procedures include orthopaedics, chest and abdominal surgery, kidney, urology, gynecological and breast surgery, vascular procedures, and ear, nose, throat, and eye procedures. Patients are admitted for surgery through a pre-operative suite with a private room and bath where the patient will return after recovery if they do not have to be admitted. Patients returning to the pre-operative suite can rest comfortably in the privacy of their room until they are able to go home.
