Omaha, Neb. – For the seventh year in a row, Omaha’s Alegent Health ranked in the top 100 on a survey of integrated healthcare networks across the country conducted by Verispan. According to the report in a February edition of Modern Healthcare magazine, Alegent Health ranked 17th out of all the integrated hospital systems in the nation. Last year, Alegent Health ranked 28th in the survey.
Alegent Health was recognized for its successful integration as a health system, excelling in integrated technology, increased financial stability and outpatient utilization among other indicators. Ten years ago, Alegent Health unified several hospitals into one health system to better serve the metro area’s health needs. Today, it offers a wide range of services within nine acute care hospitals, with 1,829 licensed beds and more than 1,200 physicians on its medical staffs. Alegent Health provides services at more than 100 sites and has roughly 8,600 employees.
“It is an honor to once again be ranked among the nation’s top integrated health systems. As a leader in our industry, Alegent Health continues to build relationships and partnerships crucial to advancing the quality and availability of healthcare, addressing the healthcare issues of our day and promoting strong, healthy communities,” said Wayne A. Sensor, CEO of Alegent Health.
Verispan’s survey found that integrated networks were more frequently collaborating with other care providers such as hospitals, medical practices and nursing homes rather than acquiring organizations.
Verispan, a Chicago-based research firm, surveyed the country’s 568 regional, non-specialty healthcare systems. Verispan has been monitoring the integrated health network market since 1994.
