Immanuel Rehabilitation Center at the Immanuel Medical Center.
Sports and Leisure Program for Persons with Physical Disabilities
Living life to the fullest
is an important part of learning to live with a physical disability. The
Immanuel Rehabilitation Center's Sports & Leisure program excites the spirit
and provides persons with physical disabilities and their friends and families
with opportunities to reach new levels of independence, build friendships,
improve skills, and become involved in something good! Fishing, a trip to the
zoo or community playhouse and many new and exciting recreational programs are
sure to be satisfying experiences for everyone!.
Driver Education and Training Program
(requires written physician recommendation for enrollment)
This program begins with a two-hour
evaluation which includes assessments of vision, reaction time, problem solving,
judgement and physical abilities. The second component is an on-the-road driving
test to determine the driver's ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Candidates for the program are physically challenged individuals learning to use
adaptive equipment, individuals with learning disabilities who would benefit
from a structured one-on-one program, and older adults interested in evaluation
and refreshing their driving skills. Physician referral is required. Candidates
must be at least 15 years of age and meet requirements necessary to obtain a
state driver's license or permit. Scheduled Monday through Friday.
