Adult Chemical Dependency
Acute Treatment
Client:
Patients undergoing withdrawal from addictive substances.
Hours:
Patients are admitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Service Goal:
Provide medical and nursing supervision to patients undergoing withdrawal from addictive substances.
Service Description:
Patients are seen daily by their psychiatrists, or attending physicians. Following assessment, the treatment team develops an individualized treatment plan with the patient, focusing on the patient’s physical, psychological and spiritual needs.
Follow-up Care:
Patients are discharged when their detoxification is complete and ongoing treatment plans are in place. Follow-up care may include intensive outpatient or residential treatment.
Treatment Team:
The interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, dietician and chaplain provide medical, biological, social, spiritual,
behavioral and emotional support.
Referral Process:
Referrals to acute psychiatric service can be made directly by a psychiatrist and/or a physician, by the Department of Social Services, schools, family, courts, therapists, psychologists, Emergency Departments of Alegent Health hospitals or clergy. Co-Dependency Services
Client:
Significant others of the chemically dependent client.
Hours:

Service Goal:
To help clients recognize and understand the chemical dependency process and identify individual positive coping skills.
Service Description:
The program assists in breaking down the walls of defense and self-delusion the family has erected. Family members and concerned persons are encouraged to participate in the recovery process for both themselves and the chemically dependent person. Services are available for both adults and children.
Follow-up Care:
12-step support groups and mental health therapy as needed.

Family Treatment (Chemical Dependency)
Client:
Significant others and family members of chemically dependent clients.
Hours:
Hours vary, depending on location.
Service Goal:
Helping the family members and significant others to understand the addictive disease, the stages of recovery and how the addiction affects family dynamics.
Service Description:
Family therapy is an essential element of treatment for all chemically dependent persons. It may involve married couples, parent-child relationships, extended family relationships and committed adult relationships. Issues of responsibility and accountability are explored and clarified.
Follow-up Care:
Refer to 12-step groups and/or mental health therapy.
Treatment Team:
Physician, nurse, therapist, client and family members.
Referral Process:
Referral will be determined during the initial assessment of the patient.

Intervention Counseling (Chemical Dependency)
Client:
Family, friends and employers of addicted individuals.
Hours:
Hours vary, depending on location .
Service Goal:
To provide the family, friends and employers of addicted individuals with knowledge and understanding of the addictive process and its detrimental effects on their own lives.
Service Description:
An initial assessment with family, friends and perhaps even employers determines the treatment plan.

Outpatient Chemical Dependency Continued Care
Client:
Clients who have successfully completed a chemical dependency program.
Service Goal:
To bridge the gap between the treatment program and the self-help
community.
Service Description:
Coordination and referral of community resources.
Treatment Team:
Physician, nurse, therapist and client .
Referral Process:
The treatment team will coordinate referrals based on individual need.

Outpatient Chemical Dependency Treatment
Client:
Any individual with chemical dependency issues seeking long-term abstinence and resolution of underlying issues.
Hours:
Hours are determined as needed.
Service Goal:
To evaluate the level of care needed develop an individualized treatment plan based on the needs of the patient and significant others.
Service Description:
Through individual and/or group therapy, patients will clearly understand the precipitating factors for personal alcohol and drug abuse issues. They will explore abstinence-centered alternatives, become familiar with community support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and/or Narcotics Anonymous, improve coping skills, demonstrate the ability to remain abstinent and gain a greater insight into their personal spirituality.
Follow-up Care:
After-care planning is determined during the course of treatment based on the needs of the patient and significant others .

The team may include a chemical dependency counselor, physician, nurse, chaplain, client and significant others.

Outpatient Relapse Treatment
Client:
As part of chemical dependency treatment, all clients receive relapse prevention treatment. Clients having difficulty maintaining or obtaining abstinence receive intensive relapse focus.
Hours:
Vary depending on location.
Service Goal:
To address relapse triggers and develop a plan to cope without the use of chemicals.
Service Description:
Treatment involves recognition of high-risk situations and development of management strategies, a sobriety support system and a relapse prevention plan. Clients may be referred to a more intense level of treatment, psychotherapeutic counseling, other sobriety support systems or community agencies.
Follow-up Care:
After-care planning is determined during the course of treatment, based on the needs of the patient and significant others.
Treatment Team:
The team may include a physician, nurse, therapist, chaplain, client and significant others, as appropriate.

Partial Hospitalization/Intensive Outpatient Programs
Client:
Adult chemically dependent patients who are in acute distress or who have just completed an episode of acute inpatient care, may participate if they are able to function independently and participate actively in the program.
Hours:
Vary, depending on the individual needs of the patient.
Service Goal:
This is a short-term, ambulatory, active treatment program to help each patient regain balance in body, mind and spirit through therapeutically intensive and structured clinical services.
Service Description:
The Partial Hospitalization Program provides crisis stabilization through daily, intensive programming. Each patient referred is screened to determine the appropriateness of intensive outpatient care. Upon admission, patients and staff members together develop an individual treatment plan. Patients are treated with an interdisciplinary approach.
Follow-up Care:
When the patient has met treatment goals and no longer needs the partial intensive level of care, follow-up outpatient care will be arranged. Alegent Health Psychiatric Associates provides outpatient chemical dependency services at our Fremont, Omaha (Immanuel only), Bellevue and Council Bluffs locations.
