Q:   I have a lot of pain in  my shoulders.  Are there some exercises that will help?

A:  The most important thing to find out is the nature of the pain. If you are having a lot of night pain, stiffness or weakness, then you should really see an orthopedic surgeon before starting on a rehab program. The reason for this is that if you have a frozen shoulder or a rotator cuff tear, then exercises usually will not solve your problem.

If you just have pain with overhead activities and no significant night pain or weakness, then you probably have tendinitis or busitis and I would recommend seeing a physical therapist for a specific rotator cuff strengthening program.
