Sisters sharing a little bit of Heaven at Joint Replacement Center
Sister Cabrini Camel and Sister Marian Camel have shared more experiences than the average siblings have. They both became Sisters of Mercy, both ministered outside Omaha for a time and, now in their 70s, both work with alumni at St. Joan of Arc School while living together at the St. Joan of Arc convent.
So, when Sister Cabrini needed knee replacement surgery this year, it was only natural that Sister Marian would become her recovery coach. The two attended Alegent Health’s "Joint Replacement Center" together, where Sister Cabrini went through rehabilitation in the company of other patients. "The personnel, doctors, nurses and aides were all concerned and caring. The other patients I met became good friends because we gathered for exercise and meals. There was a beautiful camaraderie," Sister Cabrini says.
Today, Sister Cabrini is back to her vigorous "retirement" routine and says her knee has never been better. But if her other knee gives, which she says is probable, she’ll be ready for another round of Joint Replacement Center. "It was a little bit of heaven," she says.
