Find out more about Andrew Trainer, M.D.

Imagine Norrie Yager's surprise when he went in for a routine procedure.

"We've got a problem with this kidney," said Egger.

The doctor found cancer.

"That's a bad word. Cancer," said Egger.

Norie had no idea that just days after major surgery, he would be up and walking.

"I didn't golf that same week, but it wasn't long after that I did," said Egger.

That's thanks in part to a procedure call a neuphrectomy.

"This is the kidney here, and this mass just above it is kidney cancer," said Dr. Trainer.

Dr. Andrew Trainer and team inflate the abdomen.

"Blow it up like a balloon, and then after it's blown up, we put our instruments in there," said Dr. Trainer.

Then they go in search of the cancer.

"So we have one hand in there working, and then we have the telescope and a working instrument in our other hand," said Dr. Trainer.

For patients like Norrie, that means smaller incisions, less pain and recovery time cut in half.

"In the past, he would have had either a very large flank incision going through his ribs that would have been about this far or you would have had an incision, a gall bladder incision, but with the adventeroloscopy, we are able to make the incision this big," said Dr. Trainer.

Dr. Trainer says this procedure is as good as the old one, with better results. Norrie says, simply put this surgery was a breeze.
