Aquatic Therapy
Mimi Elsasser and Marne Iwand are part of a unique club. They're survivors. They both beat breast cancer but not without overcoming some major obstacles.
"We decided to treat it aggressively. So I did go through the chemo, the radiation, the surgery," said Iwand.
Marne's road to recovery took a slight detour to the swimming pool. She found the water helped her body and her mind.
"Chemotherapy can cause joint pain and the warmth of the water and the buoyancy of the water can help relieve that joint pain so that it's easier to exercise," said Iwand.
Marne's discovery led to an aquatic therapy class at Immanuel for breast cancer patients, where they combine exercise and a social hour to get them through a very tough time in their lives.
Mimi is part of the class and says the water therapy works.
"I've just started doing this therapy and I just feel like I have gotten my life and my mental attitude is so much better," said Elsasser.
The aquatic therapy class is for survivors and for people just diagnosed. People at different stages of cancer looking for support physically and emotionally.
