A gym is a place
you'd never find Rhonda Johnson a year ago. Exercising was just too hard.
"Jogging was difficult because of the weight," said Rhonda.
Rhonda's not talking about her body weight, but the weight of her breasts.
A year ago she wore a 38 double D bra. Her large breasts made finding clothes just as hard as exercising.
"We had to buy one size for the top and one size for the bottom. And that got to be quite expensive."
And carrying all that extra weight gave Rhonda shoulder, back and neck pain.
"About one in five of our patients have large breasts. And they have these symptoms," said Dr. Ayoub.
Rhonda decided breast reduction surgery was the way to go after talking to plastic surgeon Dr. Nagi Ayoub.
"A lot of these women really don't want to deal with the symptoms of back and shoulder pain anymore," said Dr. Ayoub, "It's been described as having a weight hanging on your shoulder by a rope, like a bucket of water."
The surgery not only lifted the weight off of Rhonda's chest, her bra size went down four inches and two cup sizes. It also raised her confidence.
"My self esteem has improved, my overall outlook on life has improved," said Rhonda.
Doctors say, like Rhonda, 98 percent of the women who have surgery are happy with their results.
