It may look like Kathy Hawk is sleeping, but
this is an exercise class. It's called restorative yoga.
"Though it really isn't for weight training, you will get a nice stretch, you may see some increased flexibility, but you'll definitely feel a calmer sense about you," says the instructor.
The exercises in this class teach students how to relax. Many of them thought they already knew how but still they took this class.
"I didn't know how to relax. It helps a lot. And when you're in chronic pain, you don't relax a lot of times," says Kathy Hawk.
After 60 minutes here, students feel like they've just had a full body massage or woke up from a 2 hour nap. And it helps ease the pain of some health problems.
"My students right now have a range anywhere from fibromyalgia to recent heart conditions, high blood pressure, aches and pains, general stiffness," the instructor says.
That stiffness is something Kathy can relate to. She says the sport of yoga loosened her muscles, gave her more flexibility, and gave her something else that's pretty hard to come by.
Kathy says, "This is just my time to relax and have time for me."
