Does this sound like your little angel? Confident that good stuff on their plate will make them lose their lunch.
"She'll look at me like I'm not going to eat. I'm not hungry. And she won't. She's just very stubborn," said one mother about her daughter.
Picky eaters are a problem for parents everywhere. They can turn mealtime into battle time. So what's a parent to do?
"That doesn't usually work anyway. To try to force a child to eat a food they don't like. You usually end up with the opposite happening," says registered dietician, Joyce Rutar.
But Joyce says it does work, if you show them the way.
"Nutrition starts at home. We need to model what we want our children to do," said Rutar.
Make food healthy, fun and available.
"It's easier to open a bag of Doritos than to wash an apple, cut it up and eat it," said Abby's mother.
And use a little patience when it comes to trying new things.
"It may take 22 times to try a food before a child will accept it," Rutar said.
Joyce says whatever you do, don't give up on a picky eater. They may come around eventually.
Abby's mom knows that. She just hopes she develops a taste for the good stuff sooner rather than later.
