"When you enter a hospital in the Alegent system, you're going to see a lot of glass, lots of plants. It's going to look more like a hotel kind of setting coming in and there is a reason for that. That's to deescalate some of the stress for people," said Marysue Sturgeon, Ministry Education.

And it doesn't end there. Here in the pediatric wing of Bergan Mercy there is a play area for sick kids and their siblings, a teen room where the older kids can go do their thing, there's even a cart loaded with goodies so you never have to search for room service.

That's important for Melanie Ward whose thoughts are on a sick toddler and not what's for dinner.

"It is different from home but it's very comfortable. Like you said, they brought the high chair in for me and they brought the playpen and the nurses here have been really great," said Melanie Ward.

Melanie is even sleeping here. The hospital even encourages it. Alegent believes the hospital is a more inviting environment and the patient's road to recovery won't be so bumpy.

"Once they're here they love it. We've had lots of people say we hardly knew about you but we'd always come back," said Claudia Schmidt, OD.

"All those things that are important to the healing process we need to be sensitive to because it all works together," said Marysue Sturgeon.
