With every step Laurie Taylor takes, she helps heal her broken foot.

This is her second fracture in the same foot in less than a year.

"Last fall I had a stress fracture, same foot different bone. And then this last time, there wasn't any accident. I wasn't out all of a sudden running or anything like that. I don't know," said Laurie Taylor.

Part of the problem could be in the way she walks or runs. She is going to get a gait analysis to find out for sure.

Part of Laurie's gait analysis includes flexibility and rotation measurements in her hip and in her ankle.

A special ruler helps Scott Keanan Measure how much her joints move. And in Laurie's case they may move just a little too much which can lead to problems.

"It's easier for ankle sprains, ankle problems in general, because they are so lose and mobile," said Scott Keanan.

Scott also takes a look at how Laurie walks on the treadmill to see if there are any problems there.

"I would definitely take a look at how they run, what happens while they run and I would recommend a shoe that's inflexible."

Like a motion control shoe that stops the foot rotating too much when you're on the move.

Scott also uses the measurements to teach patients how to stretch and improve their form when they're on their feet.  He says that gait analysis is a great way to find out what you may be doing wrong when you put one foot infront of the other.
