Slip on the gloves and come out swinging. These pre-teens and teenagers are learning how to box this summer.

"They've learned a series of punches and moves. When they're punching the bag, they learn how to move around the bag and the different types of jabs, the fakes and all that stuff. They really are learning the basics," said Micheal Holbrook, a class instructor.

Twelve year old Kylan Clanton says if he wasn't showing off his fancy footwork in this class, he knows where he'd be.

"Probably sitting at home watching t.v., " says Clanton.

But instead he's breaking a sweat in the ring.

"When they're punching the bag for about a minute and a half to two minutes during the class time, and they'll do that several times during the class, it gets your heart rate up and gives you a good cardio workout," said Holbrook.

And if you're thinking boxing is only for boys, think again. All girls and boys 10 to 16 years old are invited.

"Hopefully you get along with the guys. But every once in awhile you just want to punch them in the face," said Alyssa Williams, a student in the class.

But the kids in this class are only beating up the bag, not each other, and they're learning the right way to do a new sport.

"If you do the wrong thing you can mess up either your arm or hand. It's actually very fun and it keeps you in shape," Williams said.
