Lakeside Hospital Healing Garden
- The healing qualities and therapeutic role of nature has been valued for centuries and plays a key role in medicine today. Studies have found that a nature can reduce the need for pain medications. Nature also can help reduce hospital stays and improve attitudes and perceptions among patients, guests and employees.
- The healing garden provides a peaceful sanctuary for patients, guests and employees to find comfort in nature. It engages the senses of smell, sight, touch, and sound through plants, fish, natural light, stone, soft surfaces, sculpture and water. Seating areas for meditative needs and social areas are provided.
- Wheelchair accessible from both first and second floors.
- Designed by Kenneth J. Backman, a local landscape architect.
- Water feature and plantings by Lanoha Nursery, with 24 varieties of plants, shrubs and perenniels, including maple, dogwood, coralbells, astilbe, redbud, roses, native grasses, spirea, daylily and salvia.
