Project synopsis

  • Lakeside Hospital is west Omaha’s first full-service community hospital, combining the most advanced technology with a soothing, supportive atmosphere conducive to healing.
  • Lakeside Hospital was designed with patients and family members in mind. Both common spaces and private rooms feature an abundance of natural lighting, homelike décor and comfortable seating. The building is easy to navigate, with elevators, and high-use departments located near the main entrance.
  • Stained glass windows, crafted by local artisan Mark Lambrecht, are featured in a number of the inpatient rooms. An approximately 100-square-foot stained glass wall is part of the hospital’s chapel. Stained glass also is incorporated into the hand railings in the hospital’s lobby and within reception desks. The colors in the glass represent an emotional quality and help create a space that offers solace. The complete palette of colors includes rich reddish-oranges, soft blue-greens, deep greens and other natural colors that meld with the hospital’s contemporary architecture.
  • Other patient-centered details include Internet access in all patient rooms, meals served on request, lounge areas for children, fireplaces in the lounge areas on each floor, a covered drop-off at the main entrance. Underlying all these amenities is an integrated system of digital technology that will better track and protect patient medical information.
  • Lakeside Hospital’s exterior pays homage to the outdoors and its therapeutic abilities. The healing garden, near the main entrance, features a sunken garden with a variety of plants and flowers as well as a stream flowing over rock, providing a site for respite and reflection.
