History
As the newest member of the Alegent Health System, Lakeside Hospital is truly unique in its concept and design. The only full-service hospital for over 150,000 households in West Omaha, Lakeside opened its doors on August 2nd 2004 as a 45-bed acute care facility. Lakeside Hospital is located at 168 & West Center Road and sits on just over 38 acres, featuring a 68,000 square foot Wellness Center and two medical office buildings.
Lakeside Hospital is one of the most technologically integrated hospitals in the world today and Alegent Health's 10-year alliance with Siemens Medical Solutions makes it possible to implement innovative technologies, which integrate medical advances, diagnostic services and information systems. Lakeside Hospital is considered a "smart hospital" which includes all wireless technology, a filmless and paperless environment and an all-digital diagnostic center. Other features include minimally invasive surgical suites and bedside registration.
Lakeside Hospital also prides itself on being a patient-centered hospital, where bedside care and family involvement are the hospital staff's top priorities. It is modeled after the Planetree (SM) model, which creates patient-centered care in a healing environment and recognizes the importance of architecture and interior design in the healing process. The hospital resembles a home-like environment, which is evident from the waiting room fireplaces to the smell of freshly baked cookies on every floor. A healing garden and the use of natural light and live plants throughout the hospital provide the added calming effect both inside and outside the hospital.
Today
Lakeside Hospital announced a $52 million initiative in August 2007 that will double the number of beds, provide new operating rooms and expand maternity care capacity at the hospital. This most recent investment ensures the hospitals ability to meet patient needs today and in the future.
Highlights of the enhancement project include an increased number of medical and surgical beds from the current 64 to 96 beds with enough unfinished space to add 32 additional beds if needed in the future and an improved and expanded surgical suite featuring seven advanced operating rooms and two minor procedure rooms.
The Intensive Care Unit at Lakeside Hospital will have a total of 16 beds and an eight-bed unit dedicated to monitoring cardiac patients will also be added. Women's and children's services will be expanded with an increase in the number of obstetric beds from the current 15 to 24 in addition to the Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that opened in January 2007.
In 2006 Alegent Health earned a total of 156 National Excellence in Healthcare patient perception awards. At that time, Lakeside Hospital's Emergency Department was ranked number one in the nation and a patient satisfaction survey conducted in 2004 also ranked Lakeside Hospital number one in the nation for overall quality of care. With top performers and 5-star awards in the Emergency Department, ICU, OB/GYN, Med/Surg and Outpatient Surgery Lakeside Hospital continues to deliver the quality of care and healing environment that is characteristic of Alegent Health.
With patient volumes nearing capacity, Lakeside Hospital decided in November 2004 to move forward with plans to build out the fourth floor of the hospital two years ahead of schedule. The fourth floor was finished in July 2005 and includes 32 private medical/surgical rooms. The hospital also added two more labor-delivery-recovery (LDR) rooms, expanded several postpartum rooms and added four Intensive Care Unit rooms on the third floor. There are currently 79 beds in the facility.
With the completion of the Professional Center North medical office building in early summer, 2005, the Lakeside Healthpark campus connects the hospital, wellness center and two medical office buildings, making the delivery of professional healthcare services a convenient continuum of care for patients and their families.
