Alegent Health wins 14 PRC 2003 Patient Satisfaction Achievement Awards
Alegent
Health was recognized with a wide variety of Patient Satisfaction Achievement
Awards by Professional Research Consultants (PRC),a national marketing research
and consulting firm.
From teamwork,nurse communication,and pain management to overall physician care, food service and discharge processes, Alegent Health received top honors.
With 14 awards in all, Alegent Health is proud to be recognized for our innovative efforts to excel in patient satisfaction.Other hospitals and healthcare systems look to Alegent Health for ideas to implement with their patients.
In contrast to PRC's 4 Star, 5 Star and Top Performer Awards, the Patient Satisfaction Achievement Awards are given to those organizations who submitted entries and were judged to be the best of their category.
In late 2002 all PRC Patient Satisfaction Clients received information asking them to submit entries for the Achievement Awards. In that letter PRC explained that they would give one Platinum, one Gold and one Silver award for each category, with a maximum of three awards per category.
Entries were submitted on behalf of health systems, hospitals, and even units and departments. Each organization was invited to submit as many entries as they wished. The entries were judged by an independent panel of hospital and healthcare academic professionals who have expertise in healthcare, customer service, marketing and public relations, and clinical care. Judging criteria was as follows:
How the initiative affected patients' experience (30%)
How the initiative affected PRC scores (25%)
Potential for other organizations to adopt this initiative (20%)
The effect the initiative had on the culture or work of staff (15%)
Creativity/originality of the initiative (10%)
The award recipients were recognized at an awards luncheon during the 2003 PRC Patient Satisfaction Client Conference on May 7, 2003. In addition, a description of the winning initiatives will become part of PRC' s Ideas at Work feature on PRCEasyView.com.

Replacement Center.
Selected as a Distinguished Performer within the 2002 Premier Award for Quality, the Joint Replacement Center at Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center was singled out in the national competition for its exemplary approaches to high-quality, cost-effective outcomes for patients.
- The Alegent Health Orthopaedic Institute's Joint Replacement Center is unique in its approach to orthopaedic care, and was the first to offer the service in Omaha, opening in May 2000.
- The Joint Replacement Center has been recognized as a center of excellence and serves as a model for facilities across the country looking to establish a similar program.

- All hip and knee replacement surgeries are done on the same day, giving patients the opportunity to progress through the stages of recovery together.
- Coaches aren't just for football teams and Lamaze classes anymore. Joint Replacement Center patients are encouraged to have a coach available to them during their hospital stay and recovery period at home.
- Hospital gowns are a thing of the past in the Joint Replacement Center. Patients are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes - it's just more fun to recover in a sweatshirt and sweatpants.
