Health Tip: Crib Safety

Suggestions to prevent injury

(HealthDay News) -- Your child's crib should be carefully arranged to reduce the risk of injury.

Here are suggestions to help keep your baby safe, courtesy of the National Safety Council:

  • Bumper pads should cover the entire perimeter of the crib, and all snaps or ties should be securely fastened with no excess overhang.
  • Replace, fix or remove teething rails immediately.
  • Once the baby is old enough to pull herself up, all mobiles and crib gyms should be removed.
  • Keep plastic sheets, pillows and large stuffed animals out of and away from cribs.
  • Replace or remove any torn crib parts, cloth or vinyl immediately.
