Warning Signs of a Heart Attack

Signs of a heart attack can be sudden or come on slowly with mild pain and discomfort. Chest pain is not something anyone should take lightly.

Signs of a heart attack:

  • Uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the chest lasting more than a few minutes
  • Pain spreading to the shoulders, neck, jaw or arms may also occur
  • Chest discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating, shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, or nausea.

Women and patients with diabetes are more likely to experience some of the other less common symptoms:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Back or jaw pain.

Should any of these symptoms occur, don't waste time - call 911 immediately and request to be taken to the nearest Alegent Health Accredited Chest Pain Center.
